As in previous years, the IFF is pleased to announce details of our QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS PROGRAMME. We are very grateful to the following filmmakers for their attendance at our festival. All Q & A sessions will take place after the listed screening time.

EUGENE O’BRIEN

WRITER – EDEN


Eugene O'Brien is a Dublin-based writer and actor. He wrote the play Eden, which was first performed in the Irish National Theatre in 2001. It won numerous international literature awards including the prestigious Stewart Parker award, the Rooney prize for literature and the Irish times/ESB award for best new play. The play was subsequently transferred to a highly successful run in London’s West End.

EDEN has been translated into a number of languages and was turned into a successful film last year. Among Eugene’s other work are his second play ‘Savoy’ which debuted in the Irish National Theatre in 2004, numerous radio plays and the highly successful award-winning TV Drama, PURE MULE. Eugene will conduct a discussion on his film EDEN after the screening.



RORY BRESNIHAN

DIRECTOR - THE MAN INSIDE, GUY’S DOG


Rory trained as an animator under four-time Oscar-winning Director Nick Park, working on projects such as , “Chicken Run”, Tim Burton’s “Corpse Bride”, and helping to develop the household-name characters, Wallace & Grommit. Rory has made five multi award-winning animated clay-mation shorts, including GUY’S DOG.

Rory short live action film GEORGE was nominated for the Irish Film and Television awards. He adapted and directed THE MARTYR’S CROWN in 2007, and wrote and directed THE MAN INSIDE in 2009 which won Best Short Film at the European Independent Film Festival in Paris, the Galway Film Fleadh and the Palm Springs International Film Festival.

Rory was recently selected for Lars Von Trier’s Advance Party II scheme and is currently in development with his feature film, THE WANTED MAN, and also LOYOLA LA BONOBO, a feature length documentary about the release of Bonobo chimps from the Congo back into the wild.



MICHAEL LAVELLE

CINEMATOGRAPHER - ‘HIS & HERS’


Michael is a graduate of the National Film School of Ireland and an award winning cinematographer with Kodak. His multi award winning work has been screened at numerous festivals including Cannes and Sundance. He began his collaboration as a cinematographer with director Ken Wardrop on Undressing My Mother (shown at last years IFF in Moscow) in 2004, which won a European Academy Award for best short film.

His & Hers is his first feature as a cinematographer. It was screened at Sundance 2010 where it scooped the World Cinematography Award.

6 Hours, Michael’s first feature film as a writer/director, is set to shoot in Africa later this year.
