The Wind That Shakes The
Barley
2006
A
masterfully executed mix of politics and
passion.
This is a
thought-provoking, multi-layered film which
blends a moral tale of loyalty and betrayal with
the political history of Ireland’s struggle for
independence from Great Britain in 1920 and the
subsequent Civil War.
The film is
a raw, human portrait of a deeply troubled
moment in Irish history chronicling the story of
Damien (Cillian Murphy) who is about to fulfill
his lifelong dream of becoming a doctor. When
his friend is brutally murdered by a band of
British soldiers, Damien joins his brother Teddy
in the fight for freedom. But the outbreak of
Civil War puts
Teddy and Damien finds them divided, forced to
choose between their familial bond and their
ardent beliefs. |
