In the Name of the Father
1993
Falsely accused. Wrongly imprisoned. He fought
for justice to clear his father's name
IN THE NAME
OF THE FATHER tells the heart-wrenchingly true
story of a man wrongfully imprisoned as a
suspected IRA terrorist for the bombing of a
London pub. The story exposes
the bias and injustice of the British police and
judicial system in the 1970’s and was a huge PR
coup for the IRA when it came out in the 1990’s
during their conversion from terrorists to
peacemakers.
Oscar winner
Day-Lewis plays Gerry Conlon in a mind-boggling
performance erupting with rage, pride, heart,
and courage.
A small time
thief from Belfast, Conlon is falsely implicated
in the IRA bombing of a London pub that kills
several people. Bullied by the British police,
he and four of his friends are coerced into
confessing their guilt. Conlon spends 15 years
in prison while his father tries to prove his
innocence with the help of a British human
rights lawyer. Jim Sheridan’s film portrays with
a sense of passionate conviction, a story of
gross politically-motivated injustice and a
poignant, moving account of a young man
discovering his love for his father. |
