The Butcer Boy
1997
This little piggy
laughed all the way home!
Some say it’s the best
Irish film ever made. A cult classic, THE
BUTCHER BOY depicts a frightening tale of
madness and abuse told with pop-eyed color and
giddy humor. Eamonn Owens plays 10-year old
Francie Brady in what is one of the most
memorable performances by a child actor in
cinema history.
Francie
escapes into a world of comic books, television,
and science fiction films to cope with his
mentally ill mom, his alcoholic father and a
bleak existence in a small 1960s Ireland town.
The chasm between Francie’s imaginary world and
the drabness of his real life takes the audience
on a bizarre journey of great hilarity,
violence and despair which
still remains profoundly touching.
The film features a sublime cameo of Sinéad
O'Connor as the Virgin Mary. |
